KNALLO – that’s us – Jantin and Morti.

We first met—and came to appreciate one another—ten years ago, when we worked side-by-side behind the counter at the same arthouse cinema, spending countless afternoons amidst popcorn, movie jokes, podcasts, and the filming of bizarre Instagram videos.
The inception of Knallo felt entirely natural.
A playful delight in nonsense—combined with a curiosity to see what would happen if our sketched-out ideas were to venture beyond the confines of our own little world—is what ultimately led to the birth of KNALLO.

TWO LINES – ONE LABEL

This is a dummy text. It allows one to check whether all the letters are present and to see what they look like. Sometimes, words such as “Hamburgefonts,” “Rafgenduks,” or “Handgloves” are used to test typefaces. At other times, sentences containing every letter of the alphabet are employed—these are known as “pangrams.” A very famous example is this one: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy old dog.” Dummy texts often incorporate phrases in foreign languages ​​(e.g., “AVAIL® and Wefox™ are testing aussi la Kerning”) to assess how the typeface performs in other linguistic contexts. In Latin, for instance, almost every typeface looks good. Quod erat demonstrandum.

I grew up in Wuppertal—somewhere between playing Nintendo and spending time at the dog park. Endowed with an exceptionally poor memory, I have always sought ways to capture my recollections. Whether through my mother’s camcorder, the 4,957 photos in my phone gallery, or a cardboard box holding 14 diaries—crammed with daily summaries, photographs, movie tickets, and pasted-in fax messages—I have always wanted to preserve specific moments. Memories of the best jokes, the most carefree days, or the unique feeling associated with a particular vacation.

That is exactly what my illustrations represent to me. My inspiration lies in images with which I share a personal connection—a specific moment, a particular feeling. I can then carry that feeling with me wherever I go, gently captured within elegant lines. And I hope that a piece of that very feeling also reaches everyone into whose hands our hand-drawn pieces eventually find their way.
